market backup
Howard County Farmers Market (HCFM) was established in 2008 and is open each Friday, May through October, 7 a.m. until produce is gone. HCFM is located on Hempstead street near Howard County Health Unit and Senior Citizens Center. It offers fresh, locally grown produce as well as local honey, baked goods, eggs and other local crafts. HCFM participates in the WIC program and participants get additional vouchers to use at the market. HCFM also participates in the SNAP (food stamps) program as well as the Double Up Food Bucks program. Each market day also has a “Taste This” sample of food prepared by a local vendor, as well as a gift basket of fresh produce given away to a lucky winner each week. Each week there is a spotlight on a local vendor. For more information, please contact Debra Bolding dkb1032@gmail.com or 870-557-2352.
SNAP EBT AT THE MARKET
Did you know . . . Howard County Farmers Market accepts SNAP EBT? . . . And is providing a one-to-one match up to $20 per day for customers shopping with their SNAP EBT cards! . . . This program, called “Double-Up Food Bucks,” allows SNAP recipients to double their purchasing power at the farmers market! For each $2 customers spend on SNAP-approved food items, such as fresh-baked breads, farm-fresh eggs, local raw honey, jams, jellies, fruits and vegetables, the market will provide an additional $2 that may be used for purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables!
To take advantage of the new Double-Up Food Bucks Program, bring your SNAP EBT card to Howard County Farmers Market in Nashville each Friday through September, 7 am until 11 am, and visit the SNAP booth where your purchases will be matched. Be sure to come early for the best selection since many market vendors sell out before 11 am!
Don’t have SNAP? Everyone can enter the drawing for free market produce each Friday, visit the hospitality booth for free coffee and refreshments and sample market produce during the “Taste This!” demos beginning at 8 am. Also, drop by the demonstration garden where something different is happening each week!
